The goal of this three-part project was to focus on three separate elements of 3D design in three sculptures: one made from balsa wood, one from polymer clay, and the third combining both materials. I chose to focus on balance, rhythm, and emphasis. The balsa wood sculpture employs balance through the intersection of multiple planes, creating a structure that balances in an unexpected way. The clay project uses rhythm through the repetition of colored dots, following the curves of the sculpture's branching tentacle-like structures. The combined wood and clay project emphasizes colored circles of clay that are contained within balancing frames of dark-stained balsa wood that contrast with the brightly colored clay.
